The classical mastery of Romanian-prodigy Geanina who transcended political oppression to capture Romania’s highest honors as a concert pianist and composer – has grown to embrace modern crossover ties to Pop and New Age. Writing her own songs that she plays and sings, Geanina’s music is a crossover classical/pop/new age style, with sweet but strong melodic lines, classically grounded, but grown towards the modern sounds.

The Russian-trained concert pianist, composer and vocalist Geanina began her musical journey in Romania where, at the age of 5, she won the "Cantarea Romaniei" National Piano Competition. At only 10 years old, Geanina made her orchestral debut playing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor with the renowned Botosani State Philharmonic. After the fall of the Iron Curtain, Geanina flourished, capturing first prize in the 1991 and 1993 Carl Czerny National Piano Competitions and embarking on a European concert tour. After years of performing on the classical stage, in 2004 Geanina moved to Montreal to formulate the next steps of her musical vision. An ambitious routine of performing, collaborating, and writing proved to be the ideal platform for the development of her unique musical voice—a beautiful mix of classical melody with pop sensibility. With an inspiring collection of original songs, a new solo album in the works, and a full schedule of concerts set for the U.S. and Europe, at age 25, Geanina is stepping fully into the spotlight.

Booking Geanina (detailed biography):      

Much of Geanina’s life has been about stepping out of the darkness and into the light.  Now, her time has come.

This classically Russian-trained concert pianist, composer and vocalist began her journey in Romania where, at the age of 5, she won First Prize across all age groups 5-14 in the quasi-compulsory National Piano Competition, "Cantarea Romaniei".

At 10 years old, Geanina made her orchestral debut, with Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.20 in D minor, K.466, with the renowned Botosani State Philharmonic – an orchestra whose members were often invited on a permanent basis to perform concerts throughout Romania and abroad.  Immediately after her debut performance, the celebrated music professor at the University of Iasi, Mircea-Dan Raducanu, offered to mentor Geanina as his protégée.

Within a year, Geanina enters the prestigious "Stefan Luchian" Botosani School of Art and wins the Composition Award with her first original piece of music at the Bacau National Music Festival in 1990 – just as Communism teeters and falls throughout Eastern Europe.

With suppressive State control now behind her, Geanina flourishes.  In ‘91 and ’93 Geanina places first in the Carl Czerny National Piano Competition in Piatra Neamt. 

Awareness of Geanina’s extraordinary skill and talent begins to spread across Eastern Europe as she begins a series of recitals, chamber music and concert appearances in Spain, Germany, and France and throughout Romania.

By 1994 Geanina has earned her Masters Degree from the highly regarded George Enescu Music University in Iasi, Romania.

In ’96 Geanina places second at the International Piano Competition in Constanta – but she realizes she must break from her past to fulfill her dreams.  She makes the difficult decision to leave Romania and move to Montreal, to start afresh.

Networking with local artists, she performs in Quebec, Toronto and Montreal – then Tampa, Chicago and New York.  Now the light is growing brighter, and her reputation begins to shine.

In 2004 she performs in a live Christmas show on Canadian TQS-TV.  A few months later, in 2005, she is invited to record at CITS-TV Studios in Toronto.  Then in 2006 Geanina records four original songs at the Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music.  That same year, she becomes a permanent member in the shows and concerts performed by renowned Canadian musical director Andrei Bedros.

Over the past two years Geanina has refreshed her classical foundation to embrace modern crossover ties to Pop and New Age – but with strong melodic influence.

Her most recent expression of this new direction was revealed at a private, July ’08 performance at the incomparable Le Windsor, Montreal’s legendary, landmark hotel – a fitting platform for the escalation of Geanina’s career.

With a series of private dates and touring performances in both Europe and the U.S. – and with work continuing on her first solo album – Geanina has finally begun to step into the light.
